HPCL's Green Hydrogen Plant: A Leap Towards Sustainable Energy in Andhra Pradesh
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has embarked on a path towards a greener and more sustainable future by constructing a green hydrogen plant in Visakh Refinery, Andhra Pradesh.
This significant move is in line with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish India as a global leader in green hydrogen production, utilization, and export.
The plant is designed with an electrolyzer capacity of 370 tons per annum, marking a significant stride towards reducing India's dependence on imported fossil fuels. The plant, set to be fully operational by September of this year, is a testament to the Indian government's commitment to renewable energy.
The green hydrogen project at the Visakh refinery is a part of a larger initiative that includes solar projects in Karnataka with a total capacity of 3.6 MW. In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, the minister said the state-owned entity spent INR 11 crore out of a total fund allocation of INR 33 crore for this project.
According to State Minister Rameswar Teli, state-run refiners are planning to set up projects to produce 30.8 kilotonnes a year of green hydrogen by 2030.
This ambitious plan reflects India's determination to transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
In conclusion, the establishment of the green hydrogen plant by HPCL is a significant step towards realising India's renewable energy aspirations. It not only aligns with the government's National Green Hydrogen Mission but also exemplifies HPCL's commitment to fueling a greener future.
