‘Inter-Regional First Aid Competition 2025’ concludes at WCL

‘Inter-Regional First Aid Competition – 2025’ was organized at WCL’s Vani Area from 03 to 04 March 2025. 35 teams from all 10 areas of WCL participated in this competition. All the teams were evaluated on various aspects of first aid such as knowledge of the subject and its use, readiness, stretcher drill, etc.

On the last day on 04.03.2025, prize distribution and closing ceremony was organized at Vani Area. The ceremony was presided over by Shri A.K. Singh, Director of Technical (Operations), WCL. Shri Anandji Prasad, Director Technical (Planning & Projects), Dr. Hemant Pandey, Director (Personnel) and Shri Altaf Ansari, DMS (Parasia) were present as Chief Guests.

In his presidential address, Director Technical (Operations), Shri A.K. Singh, while highlighting the importance of first aid facilities in coal mining, said that this facility should be available immediately in case of an accident. For this purpose, he talked about giving strength to the system of first aid. He put forward the idea of involving most of the workers through first aid training, widespread awareness and competitions. He congratulated all the winners.

Shri Anandji Prasad, Director Technical (Planning and Project), Dr. Hemant Pandey, Director (Personnel), Shri Altaf Ansari, DMS (Parasia), Shri Manoj Kumar Gupta, DMS (Headquarters) – Western Zone, Shri K. Ravindra, DMS (NR-1) – Western Zone and Shri C.J. Joseph, member of WCL Steering Committee also addressed the function. In his address, he praised the work culture of WCL and talked about increasing awareness about first aid among all the workers. In this direction, he emphasized on expanding the training.

On this occasion, senior officers of the Directorate General of Mines Safety and WCL, members of the WCL Steering Committee and Safety Board were prominently present. The guests present gave away prizes to the winners of the competition.

A total of 140 workers participated in the competition, who were divided into four categories. Group-A included Overman and upper workers, Group-B included Mining Sardar and lower workers, Group-C included Contract Labor and Group-D included women workers. In the overall category of Group-A, the team of Chandrapur region, in Group-B and Group-C, Vani region and in Group-D, the team of Majri region won the first prize.

The welcome address in the program was given by Regional General Manager of Wani region, Shri Abhas Chandra Singh. The vote of thanks was given by General Manager (Rescue), Shri Dinesh Bisen and the program was conducted by Shri Milind Chahande, Manager (Public Relations), WCL.
