NUPPL declares Commercial Operation of Unit-2 (660 MW) of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project
NLC India’s Ghatampur Thermal Power Project Unit-2 (660 MW) starts commercial operations, making 1,320 MW fully operational. Unit-3 expected to complete in FY 2025-26, enhancing power supply to Uttar Pradesh and Assam.

New Delhi: Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a Joint Venture between NLC India Limited (51%) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) (49%) has announced the exchange filing that Unit-2 (660 MW) of the 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project has successfully achieved Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) effective from 00:00 hours on December 09, 2025.
With this milestone, two units (Unit-1 & Unit-2), totalling 1,320 MW, are now under commercial operation, significantly enhancing reliable and sustainable power supply to the states of Uttar Pradesh and Assam. With Unit-2 commercially operational, the project is firmly on track for completion of the third and final unit well within FY 2025-26, taking the total capacity to 1,980 MW.
NUPPL Ghatampur is known as Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd (NUPPL) Thermal Power Project in Ghatampur, Kanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, a major coal-based power plant with three 660 MW supercritical units (1980 MW total) developed as a joint venture between NLC India Ltd & UPRVUNL.
It is aimed at providing reliable energy to UP and meeting India's growing power needs while incorporating advanced emission controls like FGD & SCR for environmental responsibility.
