POWERGRID Wins Maharashtra 765/400kV Transmission Project Under TBCB

Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has secured a major intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra under TBCB. The project includes a 765/400kV AIS substation in Ahilyanagar and transmission lines in Pune Region-I.

New Delhi, February 11, 2026: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route for a key intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra, the company informed exchanges on Wednesday.

According to its regulatory filing with NSE and BSE, POWERGRID has received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on February 11, 2026, for the project titled “Network Expansion Scheme in Maharashtra for Removal of Transmission Constraints in Pune Region-I (765/400 kV AIS Pune East).”

The project will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

Project Scope

The scope of work includes:

  • Establishment of a 765kV/400kV AIS substation in Ahilyanagar district

  • Construction of 765kV and 400kV transmission lines within Maharashtra

  • Bay extension works at existing substations in the state

The project is aimed at removing transmission constraints in the rapidly growing Pune Region-I and strengthening the intra-state grid network.

Strategic Significance

Pune and surrounding industrial zones have witnessed steady growth in electricity demand due to expanding manufacturing, IT infrastructure, and urbanization. The proposed network expansion is expected to improve power evacuation capacity, enhance grid reliability, and support future load growth in the region.

Winning the project through competitive bidding further strengthens POWERGRID’s presence in high-voltage transmission infrastructure and adds to its execution pipeline under the BOOT model, which provides long-term revenue visibility.

POWERGRID, a Maharatna CPSE, operates one of the largest transmission networks in the world and continues to play a central role in India’s power infrastructure expansion.
