PSUs gains over 45% market capitalization growth

The BSE Sensex market capitalization has termed the investor wealth to be surged by around Rs85 lakh crore in 2023, out of which nearly of one-fifth has been attained by State-owned companies, worth around Rs16 lakh crore.

The combined market of 65 odd public sector undertakings rises by 45 percent in 2023 in line with the good accommodation of capital growths of domestic equities. As per the Refinitiv data, the market value of these PSUs is either the majority owner or owns a substantial stake, increased by Rs15.8 lakh crore to Rs50.5 lakh crore. The operating PSUs are diversified among different sectors that include energy, insurance, power, railways, banks, ship-building, and ports.

On considering the Large private sector companies, Aditya Birla Group's market value increased by 38%, Tata Group's by nearly 32%, Bajaj Group's by 23%, Reliance Industries by 1.6%, while, Adani Group saw an upliftment of 29% wealth erosin.

The biggest capital addition is done by the NTPC, which made its shareholder's wealth stronger by Rs1.4 lakh crore with its current market value total at nearly Rs3.1 lakh crore. The next second most gaining sector was LIC, the insurance giant, which added Rs 93,547 crore to its market value which is at Rs5.3 lakh crore.

The third most profit-earning sector is- Coal India which shows a 67% rise in its stock price rate, accounting to total Rs 93,026 crore addition to its market value to Rs2.3 lakh crore as of now.

The President's stake in NTPC and LIC are 51.1% and 96.5%, respectively. The same stakeholder in Coal India is at 63.1% as of September-end , according to the provisional data showed by BSE.

The State Bank of India, has gained a market cap of Rs5.7 lakh crore in terms of market value. The respective public sector gains are less than 5 percent in the 2023 year even as 18-19 percent gains in the Sensex and Nifty both. It has a 12 percent rise in banking index, meanwhile, transforming the market capital addition of Rs 25,301 crore. The President's stake in SBI is 57.5 percent.
