New Delhi: According to the officials Indian government currently approved 15 airports of which some are under construction. some sources cite that the government aims to have more than 200 airports, including heliports and water aerodromes, operational within the next 2-3 years. This reflects a significant expansion in the airlines and connectivity.

Airports in active construction:

15 airports: This includes projects like Jewar Airport (Noida), Mopa Airport (Goa), Orvakal Airport (Kurnool), Bhogapuram International Airport (Visakhapatnam), and more. 

These are expected to be operational within the next few years, with some like Bhogapuram aiming for early 2025 completion.

Few projects are nearly completion and some are halfway. For further expansion and development, the Ministry of civil aviation has signed many agreements and MoUs with the Airport Authority of India.

Number of heliports in India: 

According to the findings, there are 1902 heliports in India (as of September 24, 2023). According to the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia India is likely to have 200-220 more airports including heliports.

Earlier the minister said that the Modi Government has done the work of 68 years in just 9 years (pointing out the past government works.) The number has reached from 74 to 148. Aiming to make in 200-220 in the next five years including heliports and water aerodromes", he added.
