Gurugram gets 4 flyovers and nine foot overbridges

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways & Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, has laid the foundation stone for four new flyovers and nine-foot overbridges on the Gurugram–Kotputli–Jaipur section of National Highway-48.

The project, which costs around Rs 282 crore, is focused on decongesting traffic, enhancing safety, and improving connectivity across Gurugram, Rewari, and adjoining regions. The four flyovers will be built at Panchgaon Chowk, Rathiwas, near Hero Company, and Sahlawas, while nine-foot overbridges will come up at Shikhopur, Manesar, Binola, Rathiwas, Malpura, Jaisinghpurkhera, Sidhrawali, Kharkhara, and Khijuri.

The minister stated that India’s national highway network has expanded from 91,000 km in 2014 to over 1.46 lakh km today, making it the second-largest globally. The pace of highway construction has also risen nearly threefold, from 12 km per day in 2014-15 to almost 34 km per day in 2023-24.

The project underscores Gurugram’s transformation into an economic hub, with landmark projects such as the Dwarka Expressway, the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, and the Gurugram–Sohna elevated corridor.

The new flyovers will cut down the accident-prone blackspots and at-grade traffic conflicts, while the FOBs, equipped with ramps, stairways, and lighting, will enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.

The projects would not only reduce congestion and road accidents but also contribute to regional economic prosperity. The strategic decongestion work worth over Rs 80,000 crore has already been completed in Delhi-NCR, while several other projects—including expressway extensions, urban corridors, and tunnels—are underway or in planning.
