New Delhi: EILian Smitha Sehgal has been conferred with the First Runners Up - The Wise Owl Literary Award in recognition of her work ‘How Women Become Poems in Malabar’ (Red River Press) in an event held in Chandigarh celebrating literature and art. Recognizing the outstanding contributions across poetry, fiction and non-fiction, The Wise Owl Literary Awards honour diverse literary voices that shape contemporary discourse.

The event brought together authors, poets and artists, creating an inspiring confluence of creativity, thought and expression. Awards were given to the three best literary voices in the category- winner, first runners up & second runners up.
The evaluation of the nominated books was made by a distinguished jury, men & women of literary standing in diverse genres.
Smitha Sehgal is a widely published poet in Indian and international journals and her poems have been previously nominated thrice for the prestigious international Best of the Net Awards. In recognition of her poetic voice, she was invited by Sahitya Akademi to be part of the Festival of Letters 2025.
