Mr. Biju E Punnachalil has been appointed as the Chief Risk Officer of the Bandhan Bank and has joined the Bank today, i.e., July 14, 2025 for a period of three years.
New Delhi: Mr. Biju E Punnachalil has been appointed as the Chief Risk Officer of the Bandhan Bank and has joined the Bank today, i.e., July 14, 2025 for a period of three years.
Accordingly, upon joining of Mr. Biju as the CRO of the Bank, Mr. Sundeep Bhan ceases to be the Interim CRO of the Bank.
Mr. Biju is a banking professional with over three decades of comprehensive experience in the banking industry, with core focus on risk management, treasury, retail, and branch operations. Prior to joining Bandhan Bank, he was working as Chief Risk Officer at South Indian Bank, where he has built a longstanding career spanning over 29 years, including more than 8 years in the CRO role.

He was responsible for developing and steering the enterprise-wide risk management framework across credit, market, and operational risk domains. He played a critical role in shaping the bank’s risk appetite, aligning internal policies with external regulatory mandates, and driving a culture of robust governance across business verticals.
Mr. Biju began his career at South Indian Bank in 1996, managing day-to-day branch operations. Over the next few years, he gained a strong foundation in frontline banking, customer servicing, and operational excellence.

His active involvement in asset liability management (ALM) enabled him to develop a deep understanding of balance sheet dynamics, capital planning, and risk-return optimization. He also engaged extensively with regulatory bodies, translating regulatory expectations into actionable frameworks.
He started his professional career with Federal Bank in 1993, where he was involved in branch banking and operations. Mr. Biju holds a Master of Science (Physics), and a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala.
