Justice Joymalya Bagchi takes oath as SC Judge
Justice Joymalya Bagchi sworn in as Supreme Court judge on 17th March; set to become Chief Justice of India in May 2031 for a brief tenure until retirement in October 2031.

On 17th March, Justice Joymalya Bagchi has been sworn in as a Supreme Court judge with Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Sanjiv Khanna administering oath of the office.
With a sanctioned strength of 34 judges, his nomination covers one of the two open slots in the Supreme Court. Provisionally, he is set to take over as India's Chief Justice in May 2031 merely for little over four months till his retirement on October 2, 2031.
Following the advise of the Supreme Court collegium, the Union cabinet confirmed his elevation on March 6, 2025.
