Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), headquartered in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. It was incorporated in January 1972 to take over 214 coking coal mines operating in the Jharia and Raniganj Coalfields, which were nationalized by the Government of India on 16 October 1971.
As of the latest data, BCCL operates a total of 81 coal mines, comprising 40 underground mines, 18 opencast mines, and 23 mixed mines. The company also runs six coking coal washeries, two non-coking coal washeries, one captive power plant (20 MW), and five by-product coke plants. Additionally, it manages sand gathering plants, aerial ropeways for sand transportation, and a coal bed methane-based power plant at Moonidih. For administrative efficiency, the mines are grouped into 12 operational areas.
BCCL is India's leading producer of prime coking coal (raw and washed). It also produces medium coking coal in its Mohuda and Barakar mines. Apart from coal mining, the company is actively involved in hard coke production and coal beneficiation through its washeries and processing plants.
