Assam Rifles collaborates with IIIT Manipur to enhance drone technology and defence capabilities. Advanced Drone Training for personnel launched to strengthen surveillance, reconnaissance, and logistics support.
Imphal, August 18, 2025. Assam Rifles has formed a partnership with the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur. This collaboration aims to promote the use of drone technology in defense and security operations. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Mantripukhri, with Maj Gen Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), and the Director of IIIT Manipur in attendance.

The partnership focuses on developing new applications of drones for surveillance, reconnaissance, and logistics support. It also encourages innovation through cooperation between defense and academia.
During the signing event, an Advanced Drone Training and Refresher Program was launched for Assam Rifles personnel. The course includes modules on drone flight operations and technical maintenance. It is certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Nearly 80 participants, including defense personnel and IIIT Manipur faculty, took part in the program. This initiative is expected to enhance technological capacity within Assam Rifles and improve its operational effectiveness in challenging terrains.
