NHPC Service-II power station restarts power generation

New Delhi: 120 MW NHPC Sewa-II Power Station, Mashka (J&K), has resumed power generation work from 21st February 2022. In September 2020, a massive landslide washed away a large part of the underground Head Race Tunnel, disrupting the water handling system.
For this reason, it became necessary to build a new 720 m long bypass HRT. After successfully completing this challenging task today, power generation has been started from the power station. Mr. A K Singh, CMD, NHPC Service-II Appreciate and congratulate the team for this achievement.
Sewa-II Power Station (3 X 40 MW) is Run of River Scheme with Small Pondage’ to harness the hydropower potential of river Sewa. It is located in District Kathua of Union Territory of J&K. The surface powerhouse with an installed capacity of 120 MW houses 3 units of 40 MW capacity each designed to operate under the net rated head of 560 m and designed to generate 533.53 million units in a 90% dependable year with 95% machine availability.
The beneficiary states/UTs of this power station are UP Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh. With the construction of the project, the area has also been benefitted by the development of infrastructure, education, medical facilities, and employment avenues.
