PSU CSR: CIL helps build climate-smart classrooms in Ladakh
The passive solar design helps absorb and trap all the natural heat from sunlight and the architecture lets it store the heat for long.
Ladakh: Coal India Ltd. in a new CSR initiative is supporting the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HAIL) started by renowned educationist and reformer Sonam Wangchuk for the construction of passive solar heated classrooms in Ladakh.
The passive solar heated classrooms are built using natural materials which help to maintain a comfortable temperature range throughout the year by using a natural source of energy - sunlight.
The passive solar design helps absorb and trap all the natural heat from sunlight and the architecture lets it store the heat for long.
The innovative solar classrooms when scaled up to building habitations can benefit people of Ladakh to have a more comfortable life during the cold and harsh winters.
