Coal India Chairman for Optimum Capacity Utilization Diversification
SAMBHALPUR: Mr Sutirtha Bhattacharya, Chairman, Coal India Limited said Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has a capacity and the potential to achieve the big targets, by optimum capacity utilisation and taking advance actions for environment, forest and other statutory clearances.
The Chairman, who had arrived last evening on a one-day official visit, inspected mining activities at Ib Valley Coalfields in Odisha and thereafter chaired a review meeting with the top management officials and Area General Managers.
MCL has been given target to produce 160 million tonne coal during financial year 2017-18, as against 139 million tonne produced during the year ended March 31, 2017.
Complimenting Team MCL for their contributions in providing energy security to the nation, Mr Bhattacharya said that company has a potential to achieve higher targets, for which optimum capacity utilisation is need of the hour.
The Chairman, who was accompanied by Mr A K Jha, Chairman & Managing Director, MCL and Mr J P Singh, Director (Technical/Operation) during mine visit in Ib Valley Coalfields, emphasised on taking advance actions on environment and forest clearances for mining.
Mr Bhattacharya today convened a special meeting with the young Coal India officers at MCL HQs to have a discussion on the outlook of energy sector in the country.
The Chairman said the time has come to explore viable diversification plans to enter into renewable energy sector. ‘’We have to be more competitive in the energy market while opportunities of diversification have to be explored,’’ he said.
Full of enthusiasm and motivated by the Chairman’s views, the young officers also shared their ideas on business operations. The Chairman’s interaction with GenNext officers was also attended by Mr A K Jha, CMD, Mr S N Prasad, Director (Marketing) Coal India, MCL Mr J P Singh, Director (Technical/Operations), Mr L N Mishra, Director (Personnel) and Mr Munawar Khursheed, Chief Vigilance Officer.
The chairman also planted a sapling in the premises of MCL headquarters and emphasised on making all out efforts to increase green cover on earth.
