He inaugurated the indigenous GDI engine developed by IIT Madras and supported by TVS Motor Company and a low-cost vegetable cart incubated at IIT(M). At the inauguration he congratulated all and said, Coming to educational institutions always inspires me and fills me with energy. IIT Madras has a legacy of imparting education. But, it also has to broaden its canvas. Our IITs are not just educational institutions, they are the temples that will shape humanity’s future. Our society has great expectations from our IITs. Our IITians, especially students of IIT Madras have to be torchbearers of growth and development.
Earlier in the morning, he also visits the Brain Centre and the 1st 3D-printed house at the institute. The day is not far when the whole world will come to IIT Madras to benefit from the Brain Research Centre. Ideas, like 3D-printing technology, can revolutionise construction, help address the issues of displacement and give a life of dignity to the poor, he said.
He added, "The next 25 years are very important for all of us. While entering Amritkaal, we leapfrogged ahead of a country that colonised us. India is evolving at an unprecedented pace. A fast-growing India will have huge domestic requirements which have to be fulfilled by our IITs.
He appeals to IIT Madras to take a pledge to celebrate a day on the milestones of students in new entrepreneurship, filing patents for public good, facilitating ease-of-living for the poorest.
