NEW DELHI- Barauni Guwahati Pipeline (BGPL) is being implemented as an integral part of Jagdishpur- Haldia and Bokaro Dhamra Pipeline (JHBDPL), commonly kwon as Pradhanmantri Urja Ganga to connect North East Region with the National Gas Grid. The Pipeline is passing through Bihar, West Bengal & Assam encompassing 20 districts in these states.

As a part of execution of the pipeline, a great feat has been achieved by GAIL by successful execution of laying of 24” pipeline across  3.563 km span of Brahmaputra river in Assam.

This feat has been accomplished by Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) method using Intersection technique with deployment of 500 MT Drill Rig on both the banks of the river for pilot hole by utilizing electromagnetic steering technology for precise real time tracking. This 3.563 km HDD across Brahmaputra river is the longest HDD of 24” pipeline executed in India as on date.

The successful execution of this challenging project is a significant step forward in India's efforts to expand its natural gas infrastructure and promote the use of clean energy.
