SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant's Blast Furnace 8 created history by surpassing 7 MT Milestone

Blast Furnace 8 of SAIL- Bhilai Steel Plant, a Modex unit, has once again created history by achieving the 7 MT cumulative hot metal production in record 1179 days  

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant's Blast Furnace 8 created history by surpassing 7 MT Milestone

New Delhi: Blast Furnace 8 of SAIL- Bhilai Steel Plant, a Modex unit, has once again created history by achieving the 7 MT cumulative hot metal production in record 1179 days, thereby becoming the fastest among SAIL's other large furnaces of similar capacity in sister units. The 7MT milestone was achieved by BF 8 in B shift of 26th April 2021.

 

BF 8, christened Mahamaya achieved this milestone 5 months & 13 days before similar furnace in Rourkela Steel Plant and 9 months & 15 days before similar capacity furnace in IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur.

 

It is worth mentioning that for BF 8, the journey from 6 to 7 MT has been accomplished in a minimum time of 141 days, with an average daily rate of 7093 Tonnes. Director In-charge, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, Shri Anirban Dasgupta congratulated Team BF and all associated departments including upstream and downstream shops for BF 8 achieving 7 MT production of hot metal in record time. Shri Rajeev Sehgal, ED (Works) also congratulated members of Team BF for the milestone achievement.

 

It may be recalled that on  6 December 2020, members of BF 8 and supporting depts had gathered to celebrate crossing the 6 million tonnes mark in cumulative production milestone. By crossing the 6 MT milestone in 1038 days, Bhilai’s BF 8 had become the fastest among furnaces of similar capacity in SAIL to do so.

 

It is worth mentioning that earlier, BF 8 had earlier become the fastest in SAIL to have crossed the 1 MT, 2 MT, 3 MT and 4 MT cumulative production milestones. After the blowing in of BF 8 on 2nd Feb 2018, the first hot metal flowed out from the 2.8 MTPA Blast Furnace 8 on 4th Feb 2018. The graph of daily production from modern furnaces with advanced automation & control systems had risen steadily since then. The cumulative production from BF 8 crossed the 1 MT mark on 18th Oct 18. The 2 MT milestone was crossed on 1st April 19. The 3 MT milestone was crossed on 9th Sept 2019, 4 MT milestone on 11th Feb 2020 and 5 MT milestone on 9th July, 2020.

 

Congratulatory messages have poured in for members of BF 8 Team and all supporting shops & departments, for becoming the fastest among the other two blast furnaces in SAIL of similar capacity to cross the 7 MT milestone. Dr SK Issar, ED (M & HS), Shri Rakesh, ED (Materials Mgt), Shri AK Bhatta, ED (Projects), Shri S K Dubey, ED (P&A), Shri S Rangani, CGM I/c Finance, Shri SN Abidi, GM I/c Services, Shri S R Suryavanshi, CGM  I/c (Iron), Shri Arvind Kumar, CGM I/c M & U, Shri Tapas Dasgupta, CGM (Blast Furnaces) have all congratulated members of BF 8 team and supporting departments for the milestone achievement.

 

In his message to Team BF 8, Shri Tapas Dasgupta, CGM (Blast Furnaces) said the BF 8 Team’s performance is indeed praiseworthy. Our journey towards excellence continues, he stated thanking all supporting shops and departments who have been a part of BF 8’s journey.
