Secretary of Defence Production Inaugurates Acoustic Tank Test Facility at BDL
Visakhapatnam: Secretary (Defence Production) Dr Ajay Kumar, today inaugurated the Acoustic Tank Test Facility at the Visakhapatnam Unit of Bharat Dynamics Limited, a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence.
The test facility is one of its kind world class test facility used for testing underwater weapons like Torpedoes, Mines, Sonobuoys, Decoys and other related systems. The acoustics systems of the underwater weapons are required to be tested and calibrated in water environment prior to their deployment in the actual sea waters. The new on-site test facility enhances the manufacturing capabilities manifold and opens up opportunities for handling multiple projects simultaneously.
CMD, BDL Shri V. Udaya Bhaskar apprised Secretary (DP) of various naval products being undertaken at Visakhapatnam Unit. Later, Secretary (DP) visited the manufacturing facilities at the Unit. On the sidelines of the above event, the Coffee Table Book on BDL, 'The Dynamic Decades of Bharat Dynamics Limited" was released by Secretary (DP).
The Visakhapatnam Unit of BDL has been set up exclusively for the manufacture of underwater weapons for supply to the Indian Navy. BDL is expanding its footprint globally by offering Torpedoes, Akash Weapon System, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles and Counter Measure Dispensing System to friendly foreign countries.

Piramanayagam, Director (Technical), Shri NP Diwakar, Executive Director (Mktg) Cmde TN Kaul (Retd), GM and Unit Head, BDL, Visakhapatnam Shri Ashutosh Kumar, GM (P&A) Shri S. Narayanan, GM (Visakhapatnam Unit) Shri S V Kameswar and other senior officials of the Company were present on the occasion.
