WCL concludes Annual Mine Safety Fortnight 2022
In his presidential address, Shri Manoj Kumar said that safety in mining work should be adopted as a way of life.
New Delhi: The closing and prize distribution ceremony of the annual Mines Safety Fortnight 2022 was organized on August 11, 2023, under the joint aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety and Western Coalfields Limited. Honorable Shri Prabhat Kumar, Director General of Mines Safety, Directorate General of Mines Safety, Dhanbad was present as the Chief Guest at the function held at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Nagpur. The program was presided over by Shri Manoj Kumar, CMD, WCL.
In his presidential address, Shri Manoj Kumar said that safety in mining work should be adopted as a way of life. He said that the work done with safety is only successful and the target of zero accident can be achieved only with the collective participation of all. In his address, he emphasized on the use of new technology, proper training, awareness, strict adherence to safety rules, healthy lifestyle etc. He called upon everyone to produce coal with safety.

He said that security should be a part of daily work. This objective can be achieved only with the combined efforts of the WCL management, personnel and the Directorate General of Mines Safety. He talked about the use of new technology in WCL, adoption of Standard Operating Procedure, awareness during work etc. In the end, he conveyed his best wishes to WCL for achieving the production target for the current financial year in a safe manner.
The program started with the hoisting of the safety flag and lighting of the safety lamp. Tributes were paid to the martyrs of Waikoli by keeping silence. The safety oath was read and the welcome address was given by Mr. Deepak Rewatkar, General Manager (Security & Protection).

All the zones of WCL displayed their stalls on safety related topics. The guests paid a live visit to the exhibition and appreciated the equipments and activities presented. The dignitaries released the security souvenir during the programme. Along with this, attractive cultural presentations were given by the artists.
In the program of award distribution, awards were given to personnel, mines and areas doing excellent work. This year's 'DK Deshmukh Memorial Award' was given to Shri Prem Kaithwas Nehariya of Pench area. The 'Bhaskar Bhattacharya Memorial Award' for excellence in innovation was given to the Auto Electrical Section of Ukni OCM, Vani North Zone. The 'Prakash Nandan Memorial Award' for the best excavation work was given to Umred OCM, Umred area. The highest 'Sanyal Memorial Award' given to the most secure area was awarded to Umred area of ??Waikoli.
Senior officers of Directorate General of Mines Safety, Director Technical (Operations)/Personnel of WCL Shri JP Dwivedi, Director Technical (Planning & Projects) Shri A.K. Of. Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer Mr. Ajay Madhukar Mhetre, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, North Zone, Ghaziabad Mr. Satish Chiddarwar, Director of Mines Safety, West Zone, Nagpur Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Senior Officer, Directorate General of Mines Safety Member, Coal India Safety Board, WCL Members of the Steering Committee and Security Board were prominently present. Mrs. Anita Agarwal, President of Jhankar Mahila Mandal along with Vice Presidents and members were also present in the programme.
The program was conducted by Shri S. P. Singh, Ex-Adviser (Public Relations), Mrs. Anupama Tembhurnikar, Sr. Manager (Personnel) and Mr. C.J. Joseph, Member, CIL Safety Board, did. The vote of thanks was done by Mr. Mohd. Sabir, Regional General Manager, Umred area. The responsibility of organizing the next year's Mines Safety Fortnight - 2023 was given to Vani region.
