WCL provided Rs 35.09 lakh financial assistance for the establishment of 'Gamma Irradiation Facility'
New Delhi: Chairman cum Managing Director of Western Coalfields Limited Shri JP Dwivedi, Chief Committee Member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Shri Bhaiyyaji Joshi and Executive Director AIIMS, Nagpur Dr. (Prof.) Prashant Joshi at Dr. Hedgewar Blood Bank, Nagpur on 09.05.2024 inaugurated Gamma Irradiation Facility.

WCL has provided financial assistance of Rs 35.09 lakh from CSR fund for the establishment of the Gamma Irradiation Facility in Dr. Hedgewar Blood Bank. Dr. Hedgewar Blood Center is a renowned blood center in Central India with NABH accreditation.
On this occasion, General Manager (Welfare/CSR), WECOLI Mr. AK Singh, officers of Welfare/CSR department of WECOLI, officers and employees of Dr. Hedgewar Blood Bank, Nagpur were prominently present in the inauguration ceremony. Dr. Hedgewar Blood Bank, Nagpur expressed gratitude to WACOLI for the financial assistance.

The financial assistance provided by WCL covers requirements like Gamma Irradiator (Civil & Electrical), dosimeters, radiation, Survey Meter & other requirements like manpower training and dosimeter testing. Irradiated blood will significantly reduce morbidity in patients who require multiple transfusions, such as premature infants, intrauterine and neonatal exchange transfusions, immune-compromised patients, chemotherapy, platelet and organ transplant recipients. Establishment of Gamma Irradiation Facility by VICOLI at Dr. Hedgewar Blood Center will be of great help in the prevention of TA-GHD to the patients mentioned above.
