KPI Green Enters Battery Storage Space with 445 MW GUVNL Project
New Delhi: KPI Green Energy Limited has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the development of 445 MW / 890 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across multiple locations in Gujarat.
The project will be executed by Sun Drops Energia Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of KPI Green Energy. The award marks two major milestones for the Group — its first utility-scale IPP BESS project and its first BESS project from a government entity.
The LoI was issued under Phase-VII tariff-based competitive bidding, supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). The projects will be developed on a self-owned Independent Power Producer (IPP) basis and are subject to the execution of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) and regulatory approvals.
Standalone BESS projects are emerging as critical infrastructure for ensuring grid stability, managing peak power demand, and enabling large-scale renewable energy integration. With this project, KPI Green formally enters the utility-scale energy storage segment, adding a strategic new asset class to its existing portfolio of solar, wind and hybrid power projects.
