Rairangpur, Odisha – February 4, 2026: Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art 360-seater girls’ hostel at Rairangpur Women’s College, in Mayurbhanj District, Odisha. The ambitious project, estimated at ₹10.23 crore, is being undertaken by NHPC Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, with Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited executing the construction in coordination with the Mayurbhanj District Administration.
The modern hostel, designed with RCC structure and earthquake-resistant features, will include well-furnished rooms, 24×7 CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems, study rooms, a dining hall, and recreational facilities. This initiative aims to provide a safe, accessible, and motivating residential environment, particularly for girls from tribal and remote areas, thereby ensuring the continuity of their education and improving access to higher studies.
Speaking at the event, President Murmu emphasized the importance of women’s education and empowerment, noting that such projects resonate with national priorities like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and the National Education Policy. NHPC Limited’s commitment to social development, tribal empowerment, and inclusive growth is clearly reflected in this project, which promises to transform the academic and personal lives of girl students in the region.
The project is expected to be completed within the next few years, providing a secure and modern residential facility for the students of Rairangpur Women’s College, contributing significantly to the region’s educational infrastructure.
