The team has notched a new benchmark in completing the 18th km of tunneling on 12.11.2021 in the most complex geology in a remarkably short span of 11 days. Project completion is planned for 2024-25

New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited team achieves the 18th km of Tunnelling on November 12, 2021, in the most challenging geology on the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag New Rail line project in a remarkably short span of 11 days.
Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Project: The Project, entrusted to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, proposes to bring rail connectivity to the higher reaches of Uttarakhand. The electrified BG rail line will connect important towns like Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag (5 districts). This is a technically challenging project involving the construction of a rail line in the rugged Himalayan topography with complex geology and with 83.08% of the total stretch of 125km rail line lying in tunnels (total 17 tunnels).
The first station, Yog Nagari Rishikesh station was commissioned in March 2020. 5 Adit tunnels have been completed and one of the three major Rail Bridges, over river Chandrabhaga Ji at Rishikesh, has been completed. Construction of the other two bridges over river Alaknanda at Lachmoli and Srinagar, respectively, is in progress.
