Department of Fertilizer calls off RCFL request to recognise EPMC Gas mechanism for Urea operations

State owned Rashtriya Chemical and Fertilizers Ltd has announced that the Department of Fertilizer has cancelled the request of the company to recognise the EPMC gas formula procured for Urea operations for the production of Trombay Urea for FY 2021-22 and 2022-23.

EPMC, in accordance with natural gas, refers to the Empowered Pool Management Committee.

This committee is responsible for managing a gas pooling scheme, primarily in the fertilizer sector, to ensure the optimal and equitable supply of natural gas to participating plants.

According to the exchange filing, the Department of Fertilizers (DoF), vide letter no.12022/2/2024-UPP (E.38249) dated June 25, 2025, has not accepted the request of the Company for recognition of EPMC gas/Spot gas procured for Urea operations for the production of Trombay Urea for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23.

The company stated that the non-recognition is expected to have an adverse financial impact of approx. Rs 204.14 crore.

According to the exchange filing, the Company is once again representing the matter to DoF for reconsideration since.

The non-recognition is not in accordance with the principles of the gas pooling mechanism.
