New Delhi: International Women’s Day Fortnight Celebrations by NTPC Bongaigaon focused on sustainable development of women across various spectrum
The ten-day-long celebrations of the International Women’s Day which commenced on 8th February 2021 at NTPC Bongaigaon concluded at its premises with a collective message of empowerment and sustainability with the deep underlying concept of understanding and accepting the wellbeing of women of NTPC, stakeholders like CISF as well as the womenfolk of the vicinity.
Starting from the 6th of March 2021, a Webinar was organized in association with Apollo TeleMedicine Chennai on Awareness on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer which benefitted 50 participants from the township and nearby areas.
On 7th March 2021 to promote the team spirit and a healthy lifestyle, the Cricket match “Wonder Woman Vs Spartans” was organized for the ladies of Bardwi Sikhla Ladies Club and NTPC Bongaigaon female employees
Continuing its message for sustainable well-being and spread awareness towards timely interventions for the prevention of cervical cancer, on 08th March, a free Cervical Cancer screening camp was organized at NTPC Bongaigaon hospital team with assistance by Anjana Phukan Memorial Foundation, Guwahati, who took PAP smear samples from women aged 21-65 years at NTPC Bongaigaon Hospital where more than 20 beneficiaries were women of NTPC, CISF, housemaids, and women from vicinity got themselves tested.
An interaction meeting was organized with the NTPC Bongaigaon’s Top Management wherein Shri Subrata Mandal, CGM Bongaigaon in the presence of Shri T. Ravinder, GM (O&M), Shri Ramakanta Panda, GM(Maintenance) congratulated all women employees for their contribution to NTPC and inspired them to be leaders in their field are rising above all constraints. Similarly, various locations of the plant including the hospital staff headed by Dr. Ela Chakraborty also celebrated the day with the paramedics and doctors in the hospital.
The women employees of NTPC Bongaigaon took the baton forward to remove all taboos surrounding Menstruation and the importance to maintain personal hygiene. Sessions on Menstrual hygiene were taken at Salakati High School to break the silence and celebrate the physical being that every woman is special. Sanitary vending machines were handed over to the school with a proper demonstration by the female employees to the students on its usage of the machine as a part of the CSR initiative.
Recently the women employees of the station visited the orphanage- Alayaran Ashram, Kokrajhar where the women employees not only interacted with the children but also taught the children the importance of health and hygiene. The technique of correct hand wash was also taught to the children.
Tree plantations were also done with the children to mark the occasion. Balloons were sent into the air along with the children with a symbolic message to keep alive their dreams to fly high. Smt Niva Panda and Ms. Sunitha Ravindran, senior members of Bardwi Sikhla Ladies Club also took part and encouraged the initiative by the female employees of the station.
