Mines Secretary Shri Piyush Goyal Reviews NALCO Performance 2025

BHUBANESWAR — December 24, 2025 — Shri Piyush Goyal (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, conducted a comprehensive performance and strategy review of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) today. During his visit to the NALCO Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, the Secretary chaired a high-level meeting to evaluate the company’s progress toward its long-term expansion goals and its role in the national mineral security framework.

The meeting was held in the presence of Shri B.P. Singh, CMD, NALCO, and the full Board of Directors, marking a critical oversight milestone for the Navratna PSU.

Core Focus Areas of the Review

The discussion centered on ensuring that NALCO remains a low-cost producer while modernizing its infrastructure to meet global environmental and efficiency standards.

Ongoing & Planned Expansion: Review of the 5th Stream Alumina Refinery project and capacity expansion at the Smelter plant to increase India’s primary aluminum output.
Operational Performance: Assessment of bauxite mining efficiency and power plant performance to ensure a steady supply chain for smelting operations.
Strategic Initiatives: Emphasis on R&D and Value-Added Products, aiming to reduce reliance on imports for high-end industrial applications in the aerospace and defense sectors.
Financial Health: Evaluation of the 2025–26 fiscal roadmap to ensure capital expenditure (CAPEX) targets are met within stipulated timelines.
