Five-day skill development training program at NTPC Bongaigaon
More than 50 women from the nearby villages are benefitting in the training program.

New Delhi: NTPC Bongaigaon, one of the coal-based power plants of NTPC organised five days skill development training program as part of the skill development of the local community. The program was started on 28th February 2022 continuing till 4th March 2022 on ‘Improving livelihoods through Agripreneurship’ for rural women of nearby villages of the station in association with the station’s Ladies Club, Bardwi Sikhla Ladies Club (BSLC) through the College of Horticulture, Assam Agricultural University. The program is underway at the station's community hall.
The event was organized and attended by members of the ladies club and HR-CSR Cell. Smt. Jayasree Mandal, President, BSLC, Chief Guest spoke on the various initiatives of NTPC towards empowerment of women. Smt. Mandal also spoke on how women in the community must benefit on the initiatives taken for making them self-reliant. Smt. B.L. Sreeja (General Secretary), Smt. A. Nandi (Joint Secretary), Smt. Maya Barman (CSR Secretary), Smt. Mitra Sarkar (Cultural Secretary) and Smt. Seityabhama (School Secretary) was also present on the occasion.
The training program has been designed with a holistic view whereby practical sessions covering horticulture, food processing, floriculture, mushroom cultivation, value addition to locally available/grown crops in form of jams, pickles etc., vermicompost, and marketing strategies have been covered. The training program is covering varied topics each day of the program.
Successful local entrepreneurs from the local region have been called in as resource persons for this training to instill a sense of ‘can do’ attitude in the minds of the women participants. More than 50 women from the nearby villages are benefitting in the training program.
