Visakhapatnam Steel Workers to join strike on July 9 for withdrawal of strategic sale of RINL, any other merger with SAIL
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant workers have informed to go on strike on July 9 for their demand of scrapping of labour codes, withdrawal of strategic sale of RINL, allotment of captive mines and merger of RINL with SAIL.

In a significant move to meet the necessary demands by trade unions, several public sector employees have been moving for the Nationwide strike on July 9, 2025.
Following this path, the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant workers have informed to go on strike on July 9 for their demand of scrapping of labour codes, withdrawal of strategic sale of RINL, allotment of captive mines and merger of RINL with SAIL, the sources cited.
This has emerged upon the government’s strategic planning of merging debt-challenging RINL with SAIL or any other steel plant to save its disinvestment further.

The workers have been insisting on bringing down several demands in order to save their employment and working structure accordingly. Some of the demands are illustrated as:
Scrapping of the four labour codes now.
Stop the privatisation of the public sector Enterprises, Government Departments, and scrap the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP). Amend existing law of mining of minerals and metals and ensure 50% share of profit from mines including coal mines for uplifting of local communities, especially Adivasi and farmers.
Meanwhile, the unions are also demanding no disinvestment and privatization in any unit of SAIL and RINL, including mines and scraping of MDO model of outsourcing of mines or any department's core work.
Additionally, there should be National Minimum Wage of Rs.26000/-p.m. for all workers including Unorganised sector workers, contract workers and scheme workers.

The workers are also demanding the restoration of Old Pension Scheme and scrapping of the NPS and UPS.
In addition, many other demands like Payment of higher pension under EPS for all workers including those under exempted EPFO Company-based trusts as per Supreme Court Judgment without any discrimination are also on the list.
