Nifty Above 25,750, Sensex Flat; Oil and Gas Shares Gain
Mumbai:
Indian equity markets were trading with modest gains in the early afternoon session as key benchmarks remained largely stable. The Nifty 50 index traded a tad above the 25,750 mark, supported by buying interest in oil and gas stocks, which rebounded after declining in the previous session.
At 12:30 PM IST, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rose 62.57 points or 0.07 percent to 83,690.26, while the Nifty 50 gained 24.55 points or 0.10 percent to 25,756.70.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index climbed 0.24 percent, and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index advanced 0.36 percent, indicating selective buying across mid and small-cap stocks.
Market participants observed that the recovery in oil and gas shares helped provide stability to the benchmarks, even as overall sentiment remained cautious ahead of global cues and upcoming macroeconomic data.
