India-EU Experts Visit Barak Basin, Assam for RBM Plan Development

Silchar, Assam | December 05, 2025: In a step forward for the India-EU collaborative effort on sustainable water resource management, a team of experts from IEWI/GIZ, along with officials from the Brahmaputra Board, conducted a field visit to the Barak Basin from December 3–5, 2025.

The visit focused on hydrogeology and water infrastructure, geomorphology, land-use, and watershed observations to support the development of the Barak River Basin Management (RBM) plan. The team also held technical discussions with key stakeholders, including the Central Water Commission (CWC), National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, and the Water Resources Department (WRD) of Assam.

 

This initiative aims to deepen the understanding of the Barak Basin’s hydrological and environmental dynamics, facilitating informed decision-making for sustainable water management and integrated basin planning.
