PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates POWERGRID Projects Worth ₹3,600 Crore to Boost Renewable Power in Rajasthan
New Delhi, March 2, 2026: Sh. Narendra Modi inaugurated two landmark POWERGRID projects in Rajasthan worth more than ₹3,600 crore, aimed at accelerating India’s green energy transition and strengthening the country’s power transmission infrastructure.
The two projects include:
1. Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) – Phase-III Part-B1
-
Capacity: 20 GW
-
Key Infrastructure:
-
765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III Substation
-
765 kV D/C Bhadla-III Sikar-II Transmission Line
-
This project will facilitate the large-scale evacuation of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s REZ, ensuring efficient transmission of power generated from solar and wind farms to meet increasing electricity demand.
2. Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for Evacuation of Power from Solar Energy Zones – Phase-II Part-E
-
Capacity: 8.1 GW
-
Key Infrastructure:
-
765 kV D/C Bhadla-II Sikar-II 2nd Transmission Line
-
This scheme strengthens existing infrastructure, enabling reliable and stable transmission from solar energy zones to the national grid, reducing congestion and enhancing grid reliability.
Strategic Significance
-
These projects will significantly enhance green power evacuation from renewable energy zones in Rajasthan.
-
The initiatives align with India’s goal of a sustainable, reliable, and future-ready power grid.
-
By integrating large-scale renewable energy efficiently, POWERGRID contributes to India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions targets and expanding clean energy capacity.
POWERGRID’s Role in India’s Energy Transition
POWERGRID, as India’s leading power transmission company, has been instrumental in implementing large-scale transmission projects to support renewable energy integration. These projects are part of a broader strategy to:
-
Strengthen the transmission network for solar and wind energy in high-potential states like Rajasthan.
-
Ensure smooth, long-term evacuation of power from renewable energy zones.
-
Reduce power losses and improve grid stability across India.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior POWERGRID officials and highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting government-led initiatives for green energy development and sustainable infrastructure growth
