India-Nepal 'Suryakiran' Military Exercise Commences in Uttarakhand
The 19th edition of the India-Nepal 'Suryakiran' military exercise begins in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, focusing on enhancing counter-terrorism, jungle warfare interoperability, and defense cooperation in mountainous terrain.

India and Nepal are set to strengthen their defense ties with the start of the 19th annual bilateral military exercise, 'Suryakiran.' This event begins tomorrow, November 25, and runs until December 8, 2025. The joint training will take place in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, continuing the tradition of alternating locations between the two nations.
According to the Indian Army, this important exercise is designed to improve collaboration between the Indian Army and the Nepal Army. The main focus will be on developing skills in jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations in challenging mountainous areas. The drill will also highlight the use of modern technology to improve cooperation and allow for the exchange of best practices. This joint effort emphasizes the shared commitment of both India and Nepal to promote global peace and security while building a stronger sense of camaraderie and trust between their armies.
The exercise follows the 18th edition, where 334 personnel from the Indian Army took part in Saljhandi, Nepal, from December 31, 2024, to January 13, 2025. That training covered various aspects, including improving operational readiness, aviation procedures, medical training, and environmental conservation. This ultimately sharpened the troops' combat skills and enhanced their coordination for difficult operational situations. Such platforms are invaluable for soldiers from both nations to exchange ideas, share expertise, and better understand each other's operational practices.
