Washington, D.C., January 9, 2026 — Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met today with Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Morrison to discuss a range of key issues affecting both countries, including border security, relations with nations across the Western Hemisphere, and preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

During the meeting, Deputy Secretary Landau commended Canada’s ongoing engagement in Haiti, highlighting progress on the Gang Suppression Force. Both officials emphasized the shared goals of promoting regional stability and security, as well as the importance of close coordination to ensure the success of the upcoming international sporting event.
