FSSAI & Sikkim Government Partner to Launch Advanced Food Testing Lab for Organic Foods
Sikkim: In a significant step to strengthen food safety in Sikkim, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agriculture Department, Government of Sikkim. The agreement will establish a state-of-the-art Food Testing Laboratory at Majhitar, Pakyong.
The new facility aims to enhance the state’s food testing ecosystem, with a special focus on organic food products, which form a vital part of Sikkim’s agricultural output. The laboratory will improve testing capacity, support compliance with national food safety standards, and ensure high-quality food for consumers.
This collaboration underscores FSSAI’s commitment to promoting safe and nutritious food across India, while empowering states like Sikkim to strengthen their local food testing infrastructure.
Officials from both FSSAI and the Sikkim Government highlighted that the lab will also help farmers and producers maintain organic certification standards, enabling better market access and consumer confidence.
With this initiative, Sikkim moves closer to becoming a model state for organic and safe food production, while ensuring compliance with modern food testing standards.
