Indian Railways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFFCCIL) to install Machine Vision Based Inspection System (MVIS) for monitoring the health of rolling stock. The agreement has been purportedly made as a strategic step in order to enhance the cutting-edge technologies needed to improve service efficiency and automate the maintenance of rolling stock.

Based on modern and AI/ML technology solution, MVIS is deployed on wayside that would capture high-resolution images of the undergear of mobilized trains and would automatically detect any hanging, loose, or missing components. The system on detecting anomalies would generates real-time alerts to facilitate instant response and preventive action.

According to the terms of MoU, DFFCCIL will be responsible for the procurement, installation, supply, testing and commissioning of four MVIS units.
