New Delhi, 24 Feb 2026: In a significant move to support the development of specially-abled children, NHPC Teesta-V Power Station, Balutar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the District Administration, Gangtok for the construction of a Special School for Children with Disabilities.

The MoU was signed by Shri Tushar G. Nikhare, IAS, District Collector cum Magistrate, Gangtok, and Shri Jitendra Kumar, Executive Director and Head of Project, NHPC Teesta-V Power Station. The initiative will be funded under NHPC’s CSR-SD (Corporate Social Responsibility – Social Development) program, with a total contribution of ₹660.55 lakhs.

The proposed school, expected to be completed within three years, aims to provide world-class education and support services tailored for children with disabilities, ensuring they receive holistic care and learning opportunities.

Senior officers from both the District Administration and NHPC were present at the signing ceremony, highlighting the collaborative effort towards inclusive education and social empowerment in Sikkim.

This initiative underlines NHPC’s commitment to social development, particularly in enhancing educational infrastructure for vulnerable groups, and reflects the administration’s dedication to improving accessibility and support for children with special needs.
