SAIL, DSP signs MOU with NIT, Durgapur for Industry-Academia collaboration
The MOU was signed with a validity of five years on mutually agreed terms & conditions
New Delhi: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SAIL, Durgapur Steel Plant, and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur, a corporate body constituted under the NIT, Science Education and Research Act, 2007 on 11th February 2022 with the objective of creating a platform of Industry-Academia collaboration for synergy between industry and academics.
The MOU was signed with a validity of five years on mutually agreed terms & conditions by Prof. Anupam Basu, Director, NIT Durgapur, and Shri R Muniraju, ED (P&A), DSP including two senior officials from each side as witnesses amidst of presence of senior officials from NIT & DSP.
The MOU being of generic nature has been designed to engage DSP and NIT in projects aimed at utilizing each other’s facilities & expertise as per requirements, Joint R&D projects/ professional consultancy/ field studies/ seminars/ conferences/ workshops/ lecture sessions/ training programs/ skill enhancement programs involving innovation/ creativity leading to publications/patents/copyrights etc. towards solving industry-related problems & benchmarking of processes and academics.
Furthermore, it has been planned to include experts from DSP in academic committees at NIT including programs for DSP personnel for PhD Degree at NIT along with mentoring Graduates/ Post-graduates/ Research Scholars from NIT for internships/ projects/ thesis at DSP, vacational training & industrial visits for NIT students for providing environment in steel making industry and its allied challenges.
The MOU is expected to certainly go a long way in the introduction of newer technological know-how and use of expertise in the functioning & operational activities of SAIL, DSP and NIT, Durgapur. It is further expected to be fruitful for Durgapur Steel Plant especially in the wake of the Industry 4.0 revolution through data analysis tools & techniques aimed at achieving organizational excellence in areas of mutual interest by facilitating interaction, innovation, research, application and training for effective sharing of knowledge and information.
