Tribal Affairs Ministry Partners with ONGC to Strengthen Eklavya Schools
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to support infrastructure development and capacity building for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across India.
The agreement, signed in New Delhi, will be implemented under ONGC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. As part of the partnership, ONGC has committed ₹28 crore to enhance educational facilities, learning resources and institutional capacity of EMRS, which serve students from tribal communities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Tribal Affairs Secretary Ranjana Chopra said that the funding will be utilised across multiple areas to improve academic quality and overall development of tribal students. She highlighted that EMRS institutions are designed to be aspirational centres of excellence, ensuring that children from tribal regions receive education comparable to the best schools in the country.
The collaboration aims to strengthen teaching infrastructure, improve learning environments, and provide better opportunities for tribal youth, supporting the government’s larger mission of inclusive growth and social empowerment.
Officials said the initiative will help bridge educational gaps in remote and tribal regions while creating long-term impact through quality schooling and skill development.
