Kolkata, 22 August 2025: Shri Asheesh Kumar takes charge as Director (Business Development) of Coal India Ltd. Further, Shri Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing), who was holding the additional charge of Director (Business Development), has ceased to be Director (Business Development) w.e.f. 21.08.2025.
The appointment has been made for a period of five years w.e.f. the date of his assumption of charge of the post or till the date of his superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
He is an accomplished mining professional with over 30 years of experience and brings a wealth of knowledge spanning operations, contract management, vigilance, policy formulation, project monitoring, and strategic planning.

Shri Kumar joined Coal India in 1994 as a Graduate Engineering Trainee (Mining) at Central Coalfields Limited. He has a B.Tech from ISM Dhanbad and an MBA from BITs Mesra.
Prior to this assignment, Shri Kumar was OSD in the Ministry of Coal, Govt. of India. His notable achievements include spearheading coal gasification projects, leading Coal India’s critical minerals diversification, and establishing global partnerships to build future-ready capabilities.
Before moving to the role of OSD/Project Adviser in the Ministry of Coal, Shri Asheesh Kumar led the diversification of CIL into critical minerals. As Adviser to the Project, the Ministry of Coal was instrumental in the formulation of policy reforms leading to ease of doing business in the coal sector.
