Intensive Care Unit (ICU) telemedicine (Tele-ICU) is technology-enabled care delivered from off-site locations that were developed to address the increasing complexity of ICU patients and shortage of intensivists. Tele-ICU as a means to negate the shortcomings in current ICU care is being actively sought after.
Tele-ICU is a 24x7 remote ICU patient monitoring system aided by real-time two ways audio-visuals and smart alerts. It is a real blend of medical technology with sophisticated telemedicine to improve ICU care delivery.
ICU care is time-sensitive, resource-intensive, costly, and is multi-specialty based by its very nature. However, if delivered to the right patient at the right time in the right manner, it can save many precious lives. This futuristic state of art Tele-ICU can help in enhancing public health services in the identified locations and that too at a much lesser cost compared to the private ICUs.
