Center to hold import on multiple defence projects to promote Make in India
The initiative, first launched under the Defence Ministry on the instructions of PM Modi, has now confirmed that several import projects worth crores will be scrapped and further given to Indian manufacturers.
NEW DELHI- In a bid to make a strong push towards a self-reliant India in the military sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government will suspend several defence import projects received under the Procurement (Global) method.
The initiative, first launched under the Defence Ministry on the instructions of PM Modi, has now confirmed that several import projects worth crores will be scrapped and further given to Indian manufacturers.
Meanwhile, according to sources, as far as scrapping of imported products is concerned, the Defence Ministry is likely to hold a meeting on Wednesday, January 12, during which all imports under the Buy (Global) category will be reviewed and further It will be postponed or closed.
With this big decision to 'Make in India', local manufacturers will be able to get contracts for projects worth several thousand crores.
