Mittal, the First woman to head Energy major

After the two senior-most directors retired, Mittal holds the power of additional CMD as she is the only senior most on the board of directors.

Back in March 2021, Shashi Shanker retired from the post after which Subhash Kumar, former director (finance) was given the additional charge. Generally, the government selects the director before the retirement of the existing one but Maharatna ONGC selected its CMD from the senior-most positions.

Even PESB (The Public Enterprises Selection Board) also failed to pick up a suitable candidate for the position and recommended a search committee.

Currently, Alka Mittal is the senior-most, and was speculated that she would be given the CMD’s position but the formal orders came late on January 3.
