International Conference on Magnetic Materials and Applications (ICMAGMA-2023)

International Conference on Magnetic Materials and Applications (ICMAGMA-2023)

New Delhi:  International Conference on Magnetic Materials and Applications (ICMAGMA-2023) is being organized by Magnetics Society of India (MSI) in association with Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI to celebrate the Golden Jubilee year (2023) of MSI. ICMAGMA2023 is held at Romoji Film City, Hyderabad.

India during December 4-6, 2-23. ICMAGMA has always been a flagship event of MSI. The objective of the conference is to provide an ideal platform for all those pursuing a career in magnetism, magnetic materials and applications to come together, discuss, disseminate and assess the recent developments in the area of magnetism. In this endeavour, the MSI has been fulfilling its mandate to spread awareness among young researchers, professors, scientists and technologists on the advancements in magnetism.

In the recent past, the Society has been conducting National / International Conferences as an annual event, by joining hands with academic institutes and R&D organizations. The ICMAGMA-2023 is the 7th International Conference in this series. It is pleased to learn that an overwhelming response has been received for the conference. There are 350 contributed abstracts from delegates to add to the 50 abstracts that have been received from invited speakers who have been carefully chosen to represent the spectrum of work spanning all major areas related to magnetism and magnetic materials. There is also a healthy representation from abroad.

During the event eminent Professors and personalities presented and showcased their research in the field of Magnet Materials such as Permanent Magnet Materials  Research at NIMS by Prof . Kazuhiro Hono from Japan;  Opportunities and Challenges in Rare Earth Magnets for Electric Vehicle and other Applications by Dr R.Gopalam from IIT Madras; Manufacturing routes for high-quality parts utilizing vacuum process by Dr Samual Bogner from ALD India to mention a few.

The chief guest of the event, Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Former Chairman, DRDO, New Delhi have joined the event through VC and addressed the august gathering.  The guest of honour of the event was Shri U. Raja Babu, DS & DG (MSS), DRDO. During the inaugural session President, MSI Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, C&MD, MIDHANI elaborated the need for this kind of conference. He said that he considers it a privilege and an honour to host the International Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials and Applications (ICMAGMA2023) in Hyderabad.

He congratulated the fraternity of scientists, professionals from academia, research institutes and industries working in various areas related to magnetism and magnetic materials for being a part of the conference. He further emphasized that it is very important that one should embark on these cutting-edge research technologies to be a global leader rather than just a follower. The conference lectures and the subsequent discussions will be extremely beneficial to young scientists and research students conducting their research.

Co-Chairman,ICMAGMA-2023 Dr R Balamuralikrishnan, OS & Director, DMRL expressed gratitude towards the  Magnetics Society of India (MSI) for providing DMRL an opportunity to organise, along with Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), the International Conference on Magnetic Materials and Applications (ICMAGMA-2023). He said that it is indeed a great privilege and an honour to be entrusted with  this responsibility. He further added that in the ICMAGMA-2023 Conference, MSI plans to bring together world-renowned scientists, academicians, industry  leader and young researchers & students all working on magnetic materials and or related  fields, on a single platform. The topics of the conference have been selected to cover various aspects of the current and future trends of  magnetism and magnetic materials.

MSI’s previous conferences in the series were organized in NPL, New Delhi (2008), IIT Guwahati (2013), Pondicherry University, Puducherry (2014),VIT Vellore (2015), DMRL Hyderabad (2017) and NISER Bhubaneswar (2018). This conference is being organized by Magnetics Society of India (MSI) in association with  DMRL and MIDHANI in Hyderabad. DMRL is a premier materials laboratory  in India  with a mandate to work on advanced metallic, intermetallic and ceramic materials and their composites for defence applications. It has been involved in the research and development of advanced magnetic materials for many years. Considerable expertise has been established in the development of Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (REPM) technology and several products for strategic applications.

MIDHANI work to achieve self-reliance in production and supply of various super alloys, special steels, soft magnetic alloys to Defence and other Strategic Sectors such as Energy, Space and Aeronautical applications of India. MIDHANI is involved in the production of various soft magnetic alloys such as permalloys, superalloys, permandur alloys, etc for strategic and other sectors of India. In this context, the bosting of ICMAGMA-2023 in Hyderabad  by MSI in association with DMRL and MIDHANI is quite relevant at this point of  time to assimilate  global developments in the broad subject area of Magnetics and then assess and forecast  the trend for further research to be pursue and technologies to be adopted for magnetic materials.

The Magnetics Society of India (MSI), a “ National Forum” exclusively for Magnetics was established as a registered  professional body on the 3rd  Nov. 1973 at Hyderabad  with its office located in DMRL, Hyderabad premises. MSI was started by a visionary and fonder Director of DMRL late Dr.R.V.Tamhankar. The Magnetics Society of India initially started with thirty members  and gradually increased to about 875 members with time.

During the event dignitaries of the conference released the souvenir and book of abstracts.

The conference was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. M. Manivel Raja, Sci G, DMRL and felicitation to the delegates with awards.
