In a landmark step towards revolutionizing India’s port logistics and freight movement, BEML Limited, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL) have entered into a strategic collaboration to develop the Enhanced Freight Transport System (e-FTS) — an advanced, rail-based freight solution aimed at modernizing and automating cargo handling across Indian ports
Mumbai | October 28, 2025 : In a landmark step towards revolutionizing India’s port logistics and freight movement, BEML Limited, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL) have entered into a strategic collaboration to develop the Enhanced Freight Transport System (e-FTS) — an advanced, rail-based freight solution aimed at modernizing and automating cargo handling across Indian ports.
The quadrapartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally exchanged during the prestigious India Maritime Week in Mumbai, in the presence of Shri P.K. Roy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority, along with senior officials and delegates from all four partner organizations.
Shri B N Jagadish, Head Micro SBU (Maritime) and Captain Vishal Agarwal (Retd), Head - Business Development – Maritime exchanged the MoU on the occasion with representatives of the partner organizations.
Leveraging its decades of expertise in the design and manufacture of world-class rolling stock for India’s rail and metro networks, BEML will play a key role in developing and supplying driverless electric pods (Autonomous Rolling Stock) — capable of transporting bulk and containerized cargo on dedicated guideways designed for the e-FTS ecosystem.
The e-FTS initiative is designed to redefine port logistics by integrating a comprehensive suite of cutting-edge digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), advanced IT systems, and smart signalling and control mechanisms.
This collaboration highlights India’s growing focus on digital transformation, automation, and sustainability in the logistics and infrastructure sectors, setting the stage for a smarter, faster, and more energy-efficient future in freight transportation
