Karnataka Records 14,151 Rooftop Solar Installations under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Karnataka achieves 14,151 rooftop solar installations under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, benefitting 22,313 households and contributing to 25,675 MW of renewable energy capacity in the state.

Karnataka has achieved a significant milestone under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), with 14,151 rooftop solar (RTS) systems installed, benefitting 22,313 households across the state.
As of October 31, 2025, Karnataka has installed a total of 25,675.39 MW of renewable energy capacity, representing approximately 10.24% of India’s total 2,50,643.45 MW installed renewable energy capacity. Nationally, under the PMSG: MBY, 18,72,499 rooftop solar systems have been installed, benefitting 23,47,694 households.
In Belagavi district, 25,778 applications have been submitted on the National Portal, with 681 households already benefitting from rooftop solar installations under the scheme.
To accelerate progress toward the national target of installing rooftop solar systems for one crore households by 2026-27, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has implemented several measures:
-
Streamlined online process from registration to subsidy disbursal directly into consumers’ bank accounts.
-
Availability of collateral-free loans from nationalized banks at concessional interest rates (6% per annum) with a 10-year tenure; 5,67,939 RTS systems have been installed through loans.
-
Simplified regulatory approvals, including waiving technical feasibility requirements and allowing auto load enhancement up to 10 kW.
-
Inclusion of RESCO/Utility-led Aggregation (ULA) Models and net metering agreements in the application process.
-
Registration of 20,423 vendors to ensure availability of qualified service providers.
-
Capacity building and training programs have trained 1,49,916 personnel.
-
Awareness campaigns through print, TV, radio, and regional channels.
-
Regular monitoring and regional review meetings, including a recent North East Region review on October 31, 2025, in Guwahati.
-
A grievance redressal mechanism with a 12-language call center at 15555.
Additionally, under the Development of Solar Parks and Ultra-Mega Solar Power Projects, Rs. 351.94 crore has been released as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for the development of the Pavagada Solar Park (2,000 MW), which has been fully operational since December 2019. Key lessons for future projects include timely land acquisition and advanced planning of transmission infrastructure.
Currently, the Government of Karnataka has no plans to set up additional solar or wind energy parks in North Karnataka, specifically in Belagavi District.
The information was submitted by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, in Rajya Sabha today.
