MD CPCL and D(T) visited CBR Project Site at Nagapattinam

New Delhi: Managing Director CPCL, Arvind Kumar and Director (Technical) H. Shankar visited the project site at CBR, Nagapattinam on 13th and 14th Sep 2021 to take stock of various aspects of the CBR Project. 


Dismantling activities of the existing facilities have commenced and progress of the same was reviewed in detail along with the proposed timelines. MD and D(T) met the Nagapattinam MP M. Selvaraj and also met District Collector & SP of Nagapattinam district to appraise them of the proposed project activities.

 

They also visited Karaikal Port to review the facilities for coastal movement of products from the refinery.
 

About CBR Project:
 

Cauvery Basin Refinery  at Nagapattinam is the CPCL’s second refinery. The initial unit was set up with a capacity of 0.5 MMTPA in 1993 and later revamped to 1.0 MMTPA. The company proposes to set up a grass root refinery of 9 MMTPA capacity on a Joint venture basis at the same location, after dismantling the existing refinery. The Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) for the new refinery project has been completed. The refinery will produce LPG, BS-VI quality gasoline & Diesel, and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).

The project also includes a Polypropylene unit as part of petrochemical integration, with the potential to further increase the production of petrochemicals in the future. Single Point Mooring (SPM) & Desalination plant are envisaged for crude import and refinery water requirement respectively.
