NHPC CMD: Navratna Status Reflects Company's Growth and Achievements

Shri R.K. Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC, addressed NHPC employees on NHPC being accorded the prestigious Navratna status in a grand ceremony held at its Corporate Office in Faridabad on 6th September 2024. The Navratna status was conferred on NHPC by the Government of India on August 30, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company’s illustrious journey of nearly five decades. Shri R.P. Goyal, Director (Finance), Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel) and Shri Santosh Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer participated in the event via online mode. Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC was present on the occasion alongwith other senior officers and NHPC employees.

He praised the dedication and hard work of all NHPC personnel, past and present and said that “Navratna status is not just recognition but is also a testament to the commitment of every member of the NHPC family”. CMD, NHPC extended his gratitude to the Department of Public Enterprises and the Ministry of Power for their support. He further highlighted that the Navratna recognition reflects NHPC’s outstanding operational and financial performance and its evolution from a hydropower company to a leader in renewable energy.

Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC proudly noted NHPC’s landmark achievements, including India’s first Concrete Face Rockfill Dam at Dhauliganga, the world’s longest inclined pressure shaft at Parbati-II, and the largest reservoir at Indira Sagar. He emphasized NHPC’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence, seen in early project completions and advanced construction techniques. CMD, NHPC further outlined NHPC’s ambitious plans, including the completion of its major hydroelectric projects as 2000 MW Subansiri Lower and 800 MW Parbati–II projects and highlighted upon NHPC’s initiatives in pumped storage, solar energy and green hydrogen initiatives aligning with national renewable goals.
Shri R.K. Chaudhary urged all employees to embrace the responsibilities of Navratna status, stressing the need for continuous improvement, skill development and total commitment to NHPC. The event was witnessed through live webcasting across all NHPC Regional Offices, Power Stations, Projects and Units.
