New Delhi: “Government of India is very ambitious in creating a Hydrogen Economy in the country to support Green Energy Security. In line with this, NLCIL is evaluating a business model for establishing a Green Hydrogen production facility”. This is the important announcement of Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL, delivered on the Independence Day celebrations at Neyveli on August 15, 2022.

The 76th Independence Day of the Nation was celebrated as “Elixir of Energy of Freedom” (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) at NLCIL with great fervor and enthusiasm. Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Township Administration Office premises in the presence of Functional Directors and inaugurated the day long celebrations. 

Later, he hoisted the Tricolour at the Bharathi Stadium. He inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the Guard of Honour presented by the Rifle, Commando and Fire Service units of Central Industrial Security Force, NLCIL’s Security Force, Fire Services, Home Guards, NCC volunteers and students of Neyveli Schools and College. The stage function commenced with the Welcome Address by Shri N. Sadish Babu, ED (HR).

In his Independence Day message, ShriRakesh Kumar said that as our Hon’ble Prime Minster proclaimed on 12th March 2021, all Indians have been celebrating ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’ (AKAM) to mark the 75th anniversary of independence and progress of our country. As part of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, embedded with 5 pillars, namely,Freedom Struggle, Ideas, achievements, Actions and Resolves as guiding forces for moving forward by way of inspiration, NLCIL have organised various programs, he added. 

He also asserted that,on this auspicious occasion, it is a proudmoment to hoist our tricolour national flag which symbolizes courage, sacrifice, peace and prosperity of our Nation. ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ the unique initiative of Govt. of India under the aegis of AKAM to hoist our national flag in household for 3days from 13 to 15th August 2022 has invoked deep patriotism in every citizen of our country. NLCians also have proudly joined with fellow countrymen in the noble cause, he added.

He proudly announced that the company has registered impressive records in Physical and Financial fronts in the results published recently for the Year 2021-2022 and for the First Quarter of FY 2022-23. Especially, the consolidated Net Profit of the company for the First Quarter of 2022-23 was Rs.568.83 Crore which is 59.07% higher than the Net Profit earned for the same period of previous year. During the First Quarter of 2022-23, NLCIL Power Stations have produced 6963.03 MU, which is highest ever for any Quarter since inception. The previous highest was 6638.63 MU in Q1 of 2021-22 he added.

Neyveli Thermal Power Station-I Expansion has achieved ‘First place among all India Lignite Fired Stations, 2nd among  Central Public Sectors and 7th place in all India Best Thermal Power Station-both Public & Private for the financial year 2021-22.Similarly, the same Power Station secured First place among all Thermal Power Plants in the country for the First Quarter of FY 2022-23 as per the CEA report, he proclaimed.

He proudly informed that during 2021-22, NLCIL has contributed Rs. 2200 Crore to Central and State exchequer, in which, central has got the share of Rs.1487 Crore and State of Tamil Nadu has got Rs. 460 Crore. Moreover, Tamil Nadu is the major beneficiary of NLCIL’s Power plants with a maximum share of 55 % of its total power generation, he said.

Shri Rakesh Kumar added that the total Power generation capacity of NLCIL has now reached 6061.06 MW and Mining capacity enhanced to 52.60 Million Tonnes Per Annum. Further, in order to support GoI’s efforts to overcome Coal shortage to meet higher power demand of the Nation, NLCIL is now supplying Coal from its Talabira Mine to 5 NTPC Thermal plants. 

Considering the current  business scenario, the company’s business matrix has been critically reviewed and integrated with optimal mix of Thermal and Renewable energy generation as well as to diversify into new initiatives, viz,Commercial Mining, Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, Blending of Lignite with Coal, and also to explore the new avenues like,  Lignite to Diesel , Lignite to Methanol, Underground Coal Gasification, Conversion of Mines overburden to construction sand, Consultancy Services on Coal block development  and Consultancy in Solar Power projects, he said. 
He also informed that NLCIL will have to undergo digital transformation to be the best-in-class Mining and Power generation enterprise to become ‘Digital Mine of the Future’ as well as ‘Digital Powerhouse’.

The senior most worker of NLCIL Shri T. Raja, Technician Grade I, Mine-II along with his spouse Smt. R. Ananda Lakshmi, were honoured  and  tricycles were presented to differently abled persons (Divyangs).

Shri Shaji John, Director (Power), Shri K. Mohan Reddy, Director (P&P), Shri Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) and Shri L. Chandrasekar, I.F.S., CVO/NLCIL participated in the function in which long service awards, loyal service awards and special awards were presented to the employees and students. 

NLCIL’s employees, representatives of Trade Unions and Associations and the residents of Neyveli were present in Bharathi Stadium to witness the celebrations. Colourful culturalprogramme presented by school children were appreciated by one and all. 

To mark this occasion, the Members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the in-patients of the NLCIL General Hospital and wished them for a speedy recovery.
