Sneha Opportunity Services (SOS), a society functioning under the aegis of NLC India Limited observed the “NATIONAL DAY OF INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGED” at the Learning & Development Centre, Neyveli on 18.12.2024.

A pledge pertaining to the rights of the intellectually challenged persons was administered in Tamil, Hindi and English. The Annual Report of the Sneha Opportunity Services was presented by Dr. S. Vijayakumari, CMO/Medical, NLCIL Medical Branch and General Secretary/Sneha Opportunity Services.

President of Sneha Opportunity Services Smt. Radhika Motupalli, in her presidential address, expressed her gratitude to NLCIL which supported the activities of the School management in imparting various skills and rehabilitation measures to integrate the special children with the mainstream of society and equip themselves to lead the normal life.

Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, and Chief Patron, SOS, in his Chief Guest address, traced the evolution of the Sneha Opportunity School, Neyveli, for intellectually challenged children established in 1987. He recalled the interaction that Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had with the children during his visit to Neyveli in 2012, which highlighted the significance of the school’s efforts. He said that the identified gaps in infrastructure and facilities were addressed by benchmarking the best practices from top schools across the country.

He announced a dedicated bus service for students of the school which would be operational from January 1, 2025 ensuring ease of transportation for students from outside Neyveli Township. This would augment the existing facilities provided to the children of SOS like a modern computer laboratory, Mid-day meal scheme and high standards in services. 

Shri Samir Swarup, Director (HR), NLCIL and Patron of Sneha Opportunity Services, announced a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 for participants of the Cultural programmes and the staff of Sneha Opportunity School who were involved in the organization of the event as a goodwill gesture.

Later, a scintillating cultural programme was organized by the students of Sneha Opportunity School. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of sports events conducted at the school. 

Earlier, Shri T. Sindhu Babu, CGM/Township Administration & Vice-President, SOS, welcomed the gathering while Smt. R. Vidjealatchoumy, Principal/Sneha Opportunity School proposed the Vote of Thanks.
